Fun Things to do in Mooresville Right Now

We know that people have had to postpone or cancel their vacations, and we know that you may not be ready to travel again yet. But while you are dreaming about your next weekend get-away, take a look at how some people are enjoying the great weather and the ample outdoor spaces we have in Mooresville. We can’t wait to welcome you back when the time is right to find yourself here.

Soak Up The Fun on Lake Norman

With more than 500 miles of shoreline, Lake Norman is the largest manmade lake in North Carolina. It’s easy to find a secluded cove where you can spend the day with your family and enjoy the natural social distancing that happens on the water.

Whether you like the speed of a jet ski or prefer to take a more leisurely pace, you can find a watersport that suits your mood on Lake Norman. You can rent paddleboards, kayaks, jet skis, and boats for partial or full days out on the lake from one of the many rental shops around the area. Families love renting Stand Up Paddleboards to explore the shorelines. Pack a picnic lunch and make a whole day of it!  You can also hire a fishing guide to help you navigate the great fishing spots on Lake Norman. For a truly unique experience, schedule a wakeboarding or wakesurfing lesson with a professional wakeboarder at Ride LKN Wake & Surf School or Stephen Pierce Wake.

Take a Walk on the Wild Side

Mooresville is home to the Lazy 5 Ranch and Zootastic Park. At these privately owned animal parks, you and your family can embark on a drive-through safari featuring many species of exotic animals. You don’t have to exit your car, which makes it the perfect activity to enjoy during restrictions. Many of our locals used the parks as field trips for their kids during their home schooling!

Rev Up Your Engines

Experience exhilarating racing action at the world-class kart track at GoPro Motorplex. This track was built by racing professionals and modeled after the famous and historic Kartdromo Parma circuit in Italy and is sure to get your adrenaline pumping! The rental karts are capable of speeds up to 55-miles per hour, and the twists and turns of the track will test your skill. In fact, many of racing’s top drivers used the track to stay in shape during the shut down.

Swim in a Super Cool Rock Quarry

Open Swim days at the Quarry at Carrigan Farms officially signal the start of summer. Cool off in the crystal clear waters or, if you’re brave, jump from the cliffs or the rope swings! Reservations are strongly encouraged as the occupancy is limited this year due to social distancing. You can check their website for hours of operation and to make reservations.

Take a Hike

With more than 30 miles of wooded trails, Lake Norman State Park offers visitors a great way to enjoy the fresh air, abundant wildlife, and stunning scenery around Lake Norman. Take an easy trail around the lake or challenge yourself with a more moderate hike, or bring your mountain bike for a fun workout.

Treat Yourself to Ice Cream

Take a step back in time when you visit Mooresville Ice Cream Company in downtown Mooresville. They have been providing freshly made ice cream to the community since 1924! Enjoy your treat while you stroll downtown and take in the artist murals on the buildings, or pop in one of the charming shops.
